DAY 3 - Finals

JOSSI WELLS WINS THE EPIC 8TH AFO EDITION 2010 !

Looking out of the window this morning everything seemed to be in our favour. Bluebird seemed to be waiting for the contest to get started, but reaching the top of the mountain we discovered we unfortunately had to cope with a lot of wind. The practice in the morning was constantly interrupted as not all riders had enough speed to hit both kickers. Due to this conditions the organizers decided to only judge the kinked box/downrail and the big kicker.

Then the rider field riddled with X-Games participants did what they were supposed to do, they showed the crowd in Kaprun a trick firework display like the Austrian Freeski Open has never seen before. Jossi Wells led the way throughout the event and was a worthy winner. He destroyed the park with a rodeo 450 on the kinked box and a super solid double cork 1260 mute grab.

The second place went to Jossi‘s fellow from down under Russ Henshaw (AUS). He started with a 270 on 360 switch up and ended up his run with a double cork 1080 mute. Then the last place on the podium was taken by no other than JF Houle (CAN). He begun his run with a 450 on 270 out and finished off with a huge bio 1080 true tail.

But even the boys who did not make it to the podium stomped some mind-blowing tricks, like Pekka Hyssalo (FIN), who stomped a massive double cork 1260. Another double was shown by the new Austrian Champion Tommy Hupfauf (AUT). He was the only Austrian guy who made it to the final, and landed a clean kangaroo to finish in 10th and won the title of the Austrian Master 2010.

Sadly the Austrian Freeski Open 2010 is over now. The riders had come from all over the world,  countries to be precise, which solidifies the significance of the event on a global scale. The Banana Bar kept those non-finalist smiling and created a great friendly atmosphere once again and with the addition of the jacuzzi, it was busier than ever this year.  Roy Kittler (GER) kept the cheering crowd happy practicing on the butter box (which was removed from the competition course due to speed issues) stomping awesome nose butter 900 true tails on demand for the eager crowd.  Thanks to Sean “Banana” Balmer for getting this done once again!
